Here’s part 3 of our ‘Building Blackbullion’ blog series, designed to help you get to know the people behind the Blackbullion platform. This time, we’re introducing a member of our Product team.
What’s your name and what’s your role at Blackbullion?
Hi there! I’m Migle and I’m the Product Manager here at Blackbullion. I help to determine the valuable and viable features to build for our platform, so both students and our staff partners have the best experience when using Blackbullion.
What’s an interesting fact about you that not many people know?
I conducted brain (EEG) research for a couple of years while studying at university and absolutely loved it!
What are the key parts of your role?
My role is about understanding different perspectives and reconciling them against each other to decide what to prioritise and build on the Blackbullion platform. There are different challenges for us to work on, as everyone who uses the platform has different needs and incentives – from students to our university and college staff partners.
At the same time, there are a bunch of other sources of information to consider – like data analytics to understand how the platform is being used so we can improve it and the vision of the company itself.
How does the Product team work at Blackbullion?
The main goal of the Product team is to build great products that solve genuine user problems.
We start by defining a problem that our student or staff users have, using product data and qualitative research. Then we have a team discussion to come up with some solutions that can be prototyped and tested with the users.
When the designed solution gets built, tested and released, we keep an eye on analytics and ask users for feedback to understand if the problem was actually solved. We work in iterations – releasing initial versions of features that can provide value to Blackbullion users right away, and then building on those features as we go along.
Do you have a great piece of money advice you can share with us?
I believe that the crucial bit when it comes to money (and life, for that matter) is striking the balance between planning for the future and enjoying the present – you want to save for the future while getting the most out of the present. It’s a subtle balancing act, and only you can decide where you draw the line, but it’s important to be aware of it.
In your opinion, what’s the best part about working at Blackbullion?
The best part of working at Blackbullion is, hands down, the team I get to work with. It’s such an intelligent, fun and caring bunch of people. It seems that often you join a company because the role is fascinating, but you stick around because of your colleagues, and it’s definitely been the case here.
We hope you’re enjoying this ‘Building Blackbullion’ series so far. In case you missed them, in the first two posts we spoke to a member of our Marketing team and then a member of the Customer Success team, finding out what their roles at Blackbullion consist of and also getting some more personal information, including their best pieces of financial advice.
We’ll be back with more posts over the next few weeks, introducing you to another two members of the team.
In the meantime, part 2 of our insights & trends series about Student Financial Wellbeing will be released next week, following positive feedback about the first report in the series, on students’ financial attitudes and values.
Make sure you’re signed up to our newsletter to be the first to hear once it’s out!
