We recognise that gambling-related harm among students is an area that needs more open discussion, and we hope to support you in addressing it effectively. That’s why we invited Megan Galpin from GamCare to lead a focused session on understanding and managing this complex issue.
In this session, Megan covered:

  • How gambling behaviours can become harmful and the underlying factors contributing to this shift.
  • The prevalence of gambling among students and young people, particularly in digital environments where access and social pressures can be intense.
  • Digital harms associated with gambling apps, websites, and gaming features.
  • Identifying signs of gambling-related harm and understanding its varied impacts.
  • Approaches for recognising and supporting students at risk.

Through this session, our aim was to help you:

  • Gain a clearer understanding of how students and young people may be affected by gambling-related harms, going beyond assumptions to address the social, psychological, and financial factors involved.
  • Feel more confident in discussing gambling with students in a way that encourages openness and understanding.
  • Provide targeted support through screening, advice, interventions, and signposting to further resources.

If you attended this session could you please leave feedback via this survey.
