Blackbullion wins GESAwards – see you at the 2020 Global Finals at BETT!

Happy dances all round for Team Blackbullion this week, as we beat 11 other Edtech companies in the British semi-finals of the GESAwards 2019 (Global Edtech Startup). The world’s largest Edtech startup competition, the awards are designed to champion innovative solutions addressing real educational problems today. We now have the privilege of representing the UK at the global finals in 2020 at BETT.

Anyone in our partner community knows how deep our mission goes when it comes to making financial education accessible for students everywhere. The fact the judges recognised Blackbullion on the strength of our vision, and for identifying a viable solution to an educational challenge, was incredibly rewarding.

As our founder Vivi Friedgut explains,

“I grew up in a family that understood the importance of good financial decision-making and assumed everyone thought the same – I was shocked to find they didn’t. After the financial crisis and the debt problems I realised it was time to see what I can do about this problem.”

We got to keep great company too. The semi-final was hosted by UCL Educate, the Edtech research accelerator, and is one of 16 international events taking place this autumn to choose the finalists. Judges included David Savage, founder of the Tech Talks podcast; Leila Guerra, associate dean of programmes, Imperial College Business School; author Greg Keen and Anissa Moeini, from UCL Educate.

Congratulations to our colleagues and UK runners up too! Nature Bytes, is the incredible start-up enabling children and young people to reconnect with nature and wildlife through STEM programmes and Ketka teaches skills like kindness, empathy and self-confidence through interactive audio storytelling – and reduces screen time.

“Gaining this award raises our profile and lets people know what we’re doing, as well as recognising and acknowledging the work of my amazing team. I am extremely proud of them for getting us here.” – Vivi adds.

We’re looking forward to seeing some of you at BETT. In the meantime, you can sign up for regular Blackbullion updates here.
